The Magic of Misty Nook: To the Rescue

is the perfect book to introduce children to animal rescue shelters and shows why they are so necessary in our world.

Christine Skippins weaves a captivating tale about animal rescue that will tug at the heartstrings of any animal lover and make young readers empathize with the plight of stray animals. Featuring cats and dogs as main characters, Skippins tells a wholesome tale that showcases the role of animal rescue workers and the lengths they go to help find forever homes for animals in need.

The colourful illustrations add to the personalities of the characters and make them even more compelling to the reader. Woody, Madeline, Benjamin Black, and Boycee were some of my favourites from the bunch.

Young readers will love this picture book.

A Second 5 Star Review from Readers Favorite

Christine Skippins's vivid descriptions are a joy to envision, allowing the reader to comfortably picture the physical world in her story with eye-catching details such as "colourful baskets of treats." Also, the vibrant animal pictures are quite adorable. As a dog person who also loves cats, I felt like hugging the cute, cuddly animals with their expressive eyes. The characters are quite observant and have some brilliant perspectives that make them feel genuine and realistic.

The Magic of Misty Nook: To the Rescue is a brilliant representation of the power of teamwork and coming together to add more positivity to the world. It offers various amazing lessons for children that are useful for life and important for building an empathetic and generous generation.

Woody, a dog who has spent many years as a stray in the big city, is surprised to find that his longtime friend Bear needs help. After stumbling on Bear's newsletter about needing kittens and puppies at Friendly Island, he proposes a very attractive solution involving Misty Nook, a sanctuary for cats and dogs that need a safe and caring place to stay.

It is run by the Brother and Sisterhood, which is a carefully selected group of wise and kind animals. Follow Woody and other animals as they seek forever homes for the puppies and kittens in Misty Nook. Christine Skippins' children's book, The Magic of Misty Nook: To the Rescue, is a lovely, gratifying tale about kittens and puppies seeking forever homes and the joint efforts of some animals who contribute toward their safety and happiness.

The Magic of Misty Nook: A Magical Misty Nook Festival by Christine Skippins, the fourth book in the series, is a funny and engaging read for children and adult animal lovers alike. The elves that live in magical Misty Nook love to arrange a festival for the animal performers there. In the first round of the competition, the dogs hunt for as many tennis balls as possible while smart Ollie the Collie keeps the score. The next competition is for cats. The elves have built a challenging course among the shady trees, as cats love exploring! Woody, the festival host, invites the dogs to make the biggest splash or dig the deepest hole in the sand. Woody has other exciting activities prepared for his friends to enjoy being themselves and life in its fullness.

In The Magic of Misty Nook, Christine Skippins offers acute observations about different types of animal behavior. From this informative book, children will learn that dogs love making a good splash, but some prefer to keep their ears dry. Christine explains to young readers that dogs need a rest and a bowl of water after playing. The author presents these bits and pieces of important information playfully and humorously, leaving no doubt about how much she loves animals. Christine points out that cats differ significantly from dogs in their behavior, adding, "After all, cats do like to make the rules rather than follow them!" The book sends out a wonderful message of kindness and understanding. Christine complements every chapter with whimsical illustrations displaying the lovable features of our four-legged friends. The Magic of Misty Nook is the perfect book for children to read before deciding what type of pet to choose and how to make them happy."

It reiterates to the young readers the importance of compassion and kindness towards animals, as well as teaching them the value of empathy and caring for others. The author weaves a heart-warming narrative that revolves around the Misty Nook family and their cherished animal companions. From Bear the Rottweiler to a host of new friends and beloved alumni, each character brings their unique personality and charm to the festival. Young readers will be captivated by the vivid descriptions of the Misty Nook residents as they romp, play, and embark on thrilling adventures throughout the day. The illustrations in the book further enhance the enchanting atmosphere of the story. The whimsical artwork vividly brings the characters and Misty Nook itself to life, captivating readers with its colourful and detailed imagery. Overall, this title is an enchanting tale that will ignite the imaginations of young readers. It has very memorable characters as well as a delightful storyline that highlights very significant messages for the author’s desired audience. (Bronwyn McKay

This lovely children’s book centres around a festival that is taking place in Misty Nook. It’s a magical place and proves a suitable summer setting for the events of the story to unfold. The illustrations throughout are charming and capture real personality in the animals. As well as being fun and easy to follow, the book provides information about the different assets each type of animal can bring to the events they compete in. This is a good message to give to children, as it shows that different beings have their own particular skills and talents and just because you don’t shine in one area, it doesn’t mean you can’t be a star in another! (Michelle Marshall).

This was an interesting concept, and the illustrations were beautiful. The kids loved seeing all the different breeds of dogs and cats and trying to figure out which ones look most like our own pets. The descriptions were vivid and overall the story was quite enjoyable. (Sarah Richardson)

The Magic of Misty Nook: A Magical Misty Nook Festival is a lovely book that continues the story of the Misty Nook animals. Beyond having cute pictures illustrated by the author herself, the thing that stands out to me is the way that the book leads the reader to consider the different traits of various dogs and cats and how they impact their abilities and behaviour and appearance. It encourages an appreciation for the diversity of the animal kingdom in a celebratory manner. (Tim Marshall)

Part of a series, this book brings back some older characters and some new ones. The elves of Misty Nook love to share their home with their beloved animal friends, and this is a day of celebration for them all. The magical Misty Nook Festival has carefully thought out activities and treats for everyone. With a steady pace, this imaginative and engaging tale (or should that be ‘tail’?) shows us a glimpse into the life of the animals of Misty Nook. Each character is vividly realistic and brought to life with great illustrations and dialogue. I found only an issue with the consistency of Woody’s name, it is Woody mostly but Woodie is also used. (Yvonne Marrs)

The Magic of Misty Nook- A Magical Mystery Nook Festival by Christine Skippins is a delightful, well written children’s story filled with a multitude of relatable characters. The author showcases a talent for describing the antics of each character and pulls the reader into the excitement of the festival events. The book is well edited and easy to read. The author draws you into the story from the beginning and takes you right through to a satisfying climax that leaves you feeling as though you have just ended a whirlwind day and are ready to sit back and relax with the characters as they reminisce with pride and contentment about their day at the Magical Misty Nook Festival. (Tania Marshall).

I love the fact that the Author has built her stories around an animal rescue centre, and that she showcases their gorgeous personalities through her wonderful characters. As an animal lover myself, I am a huge fan of Christine's books, particularly as they raise much needed awareness of the plight of so many unwanted and abused animals. There are far too many dogs and cats in rescue centre's, through no fault of their own, all who are seeking love, and a family to call their own. It is truly heartbreaking. And so I wholeheartedly commend the Author for the imaginative and creative way that she is reaching out to families, and changing opinions about rescue animals, with such positive and powerful storytelling. Christine's latest book is beautifully written and illustrated. A book full of joy & playfulness that you cannot help but be reminded of just how much animals can and do enrich your life. This story is about true celebration as the Author brings together dogs and cats and gives them a day to remember. A day where they can do all the things they enjoy, that make them special, and allow them to forget about their sad and lonely circumstances. And it is a great way for preparing children and families to own a pet, by understanding their individual natures and needs. Highly recommend. (Kirsty McKay)

The Magic of Misty Nook, Kitty Kat Rescue: Little Frank’s Story by Christine Skippins is a beautiful story with lovely illustrations that bring the story to life.

Kids will love this heart-warming tale of a kitten who gets off to a bad start but is rescued and given a new life.

It’s more than just a story; it teaches kids that animals have the right to be cared for and have a happy, safe life.

It’s also not a fictional story; Sparkle and Frank are real cats from the real Kitty Kat Rescue home. I loved how this was written as if Frank were telling his story; it made it even more engaging and fun to read.

It is an excellent story that is ideal for kids with a lesson for them in looking out, not just for animals, but for other people too.

The Magic of Misty Nook: The Family at Castle Farm by Christine Skippins is a remarkable story with beautiful illustrations.

It is divided into separate accounts, one for each of the animals from Castle Farm, and we learn their personalities and about their lives. This story is for kids who love animals and about how the rescue cares for them and helps them find their new homes.

Part of the Misty Nook series, this is another fantastic tale, again told from the perspective of an actual rescue with real animals that they take in, goats, dogs, chickens, cows, and more, all with their recollections of how well they were treated before they were given up. This doesn’t just teach kids that animals should be cared for, it also teaches that, no matter how much you love and look after something, circumstances can change, and you may have to make a tough decision. Great story, perfectly written for its audience.
