Emily’s Story
This is my mum’s Story,
She was born into a large family in South London, just two years before the outbreak of World War II. This is a story in which I have grown to truly understand the horrors of living through the bombings and hardships of that time, and how they became normalised in the mind of a young child. It also highlights the incredible power of resilience, love, and hope during one of history's darkest chapters.
All That Glistens is not Gold.
“She thought she had found her happily ever after, but little did she know, it was all a carefully crafted lie."
Meet Jane, a recently divorced woman in her mid-fifties, navigating the complex journey of seeking love once more. After the heartbreak of her past, she longs for connection and companionship. When she meets John, a charming businessman who seems to embody everything she has ever dreamed of, her heart begins to flutter with hope.
As their relationship blossoms, Jane allows herself to believe that things might be different this time. The warmth of his smile and how he listens to her dreams make her feel cherished again. Yet, as the days pass, questions arise. Minor inconsistencies become harder to overlook, and Jane realises that not everything is as it seems.
Jane embarks on an emotional rollercoaster in her quest for love, filled with doubts and revelations. The journey leads her to ponder a profound truth—can we ever truly know another person? With each twist and turn, she must confront her fears and insecurities, learning to trust herself and her instincts.
Through Jane's story, we are reminded of the complexities of love, the fragility of trust, and the resilience of the human spirit. In a world where deception can lurk behind even the most charming smiles, Jane's journey speaks to the heart of what it means to seek connection and, ultimately, to find oneself once more.
Reviews
Hi Chris. Omg. I loved both stories. Your writing is so beautiful. I felt like I was with both women in both time frames. I honestly thought that John was going to be the perfect man that every woman would want. He sounded so charismatic and the most loving man. Your introductory chapter had me as much as he had her loving him. I never doubted him until she was at the hotel. I could cry for her but I was too angry. I love how you ended it! Well done.
As for Emily, I felt like I grew up beside her and how scared she must have been in a world of such destruction and then the depression. I felt like it was what my ancestors went through only with descriptions. Which is more than my parents or grandparents would ever talk about.
Both stories had me wanting more.
I am honoured that you gave me the opportunity to read your work
