September marks the launch of Love, Lies and Butterflies, my debut novel.

The First reviews are in and are overwhelmingly positive using words like ..

This is the first adult fiction novel by Christine Skippins, and she has really found her stride from the start.

The author’s voice is clear, and I found myself caught up in the events of the story

This tale is based on a situation that is becoming more prevalent in our high-tech world – that of the charlatans who prey on the vulnerable, fleecing them of their resources while professing undying love and devotion. It shows how easily a seemingly good and wholesome relationship can sour, but more importantly, it shows how you can be like Jane and overcome.

Skippins has worked a masterful plot around the effects on a woman’s psyche as she navigates times of divorce, betrayal, and relationship mistakes, culminating in a destination of self-discovery. I enjoyed this book, and would highly recommend it to any adult woman, particularly those who have navigated divorce, cheating husbands, the pitfalls and dangers of online dating, and who are perhaps on their own journey of self-discovery.

Favourite Quotes

A slow exhalation escapes me, and a warm and genuine smile breaks across my face. ‘It's just... I can’t remember the last time I felt like this. Like I can finally breathe.’ (Michelle Marshall)

I awaken hours later, and over the days and weeks that follow, I have come to understand that the final piece of the puzzle is me. My butterflies flutter within me as my heart swells with pride. (Phoebe Wilby)

‘Sounds like you're about to take your readers on a wild ride,’ she says, playfully nudging me. ‘Just don't enjoy yourself so much that you forget to write it down or invite us out to stay with you!’ (Eryn McConnell)

Favourite Characters

Jane- The main character of the book, Jane, goes on a real rollercoaster ride throughout the events of this book. We get to experience the highs and lows of her emotions, which helps to give a real insight into her personality. Some women would have been destroyed by what happens to Jane in the earlier parts of the book, but she somehow finds the strength and determination to not let it define her. It’s truly beautiful to see her blossom and become a butterfly! (Michelle Marshall)

James- Honestly, I like James best, which sounds rotten, but I do like a good bad guy! James behaves terribly but I enjoyed his depth and cunning. And of course, his antics became the catalyst for the main character to gain the inspiration to act to make a new life for herself. (Eryn McConnell)
